FAQ


Q: How does your wireless Internet work?

A: A small white diamond shaped wireless unit is mounted outside your building and receives a signal from one of our nodes. The nodes are connected to the Internet Via IP leased lines. The result is a fast and reliable Internet connection.

 

Q: What speed connection do you offer?

A: maximum download speed is 2Mbps Upload Speed 256kbps, this is 4 X faster than a standard Telefonica ADSL connection.

 

Q: How does your telephone System work?

A: Our Wireless network has been designed from the ground up, to support our own telephone product. We use professional telecoms grade Cisco and Mikrotik routers throughout. Our Analogue Telephone Adaptor connects to the outdoor unit via a separate VLAN and the call is routed over priority virtual links. Once the call reaches our hub it is routed via separate leased lines to our upstream providers. As a result the call quality is very good and you don't need to have your computer on or fiddle with headsets. Reliability is typically better than a mobile, but not yet quite as good as a landline (we are working on it though). We are currently carrying  over 1000 hours of telephone calls every month and look set to double that over the next 3-6 months.

 

Q: Can I use Skype?

A: Yes you can use Skype,. Getting skype to work on a wireless Internet link is much more difficult than with ADSL and requires special Consideration. Here at Broadband4spain we have developed SKYPEBOOST technology allowing skype to connect directley with our own Skype Super-node, ensuring our wireless network offers the very best Skype connections

 

Q: How safe is your service?

A: We run firewalls at every node at the hub and on your wireless equipment (the diamond shaped antenna).

The firewalls protect our network from outside and inside hackker attacks and properly isolates you and your computer from other network users. You should continue to use Anti Virus software, but a firewall on your PC is not necessary..

 

Q: Will I be tied to a fixed contract term?

A: No, we understand that people do come and go, so we do not tie you to a contract. All we ask is that you contact us in writing (e-mail) at least 7 days before your monthly renewal date. You can only start or stop the service on your renewal date.

 

Q: What is my monthly renewal date?

A: This is the monthly anniversary of the date you first received service (normally the installation date)

 

Q: How do I pay for my service?

A: Payments are taken monthly via direct debit,  credit card, or you can pay cash at the office. Payments are due on the monthly renewal date.

 

Q: What happens if things go wrong?

A: Our network is fully monitored, right down to the point where our cable connects to your computer. The Network Management System remotely tests every single bit of equipment every 5 seconds, so if things do go wrong, then we will know about it before you do. Our Technical Director has has over 25 years experience in the telecommunications Industry and we pride ourselves on running the most reliable broadband wireless network around. Since the network opened in November 2005 Monthly availability figures have never been lower than 99% and is typicaly 99.9% or better. When things do go wrong we are easy to contact and quick to respond. Not one customer has ever left our network because of poor service, and our moneyback guarantee has never been requested. We operate from a showroom in Competa, so there is no hiding!

 

Q: Iīve seen adverters for "cheaper" services, why should I pay any more?

Other operators oftern hide their costs, you may be expected to buy and maintain your own equipment, equipment which is oftern over priced. For example we have seen other companies install nano stations www.ubnt.com that only cost €50 then ask the customer for more than €200.

With broadband4spain itīs an "all-in" fully supported service with no hidden charges. We will never charge you for repairs or service calls, and you will never get an unexpected bill.

Then there are benifits, we resolve 95% of all service issues withn one working day, 80% within the first hour. Our MAGIC NUMBER service is free to all our customers, meaning you can make International calls from your mobile phone for the cost of a local call, saving you €100īs of euros per year.

 

Q: Can I use file sharing services such as Kazza, lime wire or Bit torrent?

A: Not at the moment but we hope to support P2P in the very near future. We do however support NNTP services such as Usenext for downloading MP3s Software etc, and spare available bandwidth is put aside for NNTP.

 

Q: Can I watch Internet TV clips or listen to Internet radio?

A: Yes but please turn it off when you are not using it.

 

Q: How much can I download?

A: We do not have any strict usage policy, however if you continually download more than 12GByte per month then we reserve the right to charge €5 per additional GByte. To date we have never had to do this and you will be notified before any new policy is implemented. Note: 12GByte is more than enough for all but the most demanding user. A current mid range BT broadband package costs £34/month (€50/month) inc line rental and offers only 6Gbyte/month.

 

Q: Can I run a VPN connection?

A: Yes you can run outgoing VPN connections.

 

Q: Can I run an Internet server?

A: Sorry No

 

Q: Can I resell My connection?

A: No you cannot resell your connection or share it with a neighbour.

 

Q: Can I run an Internet cafe or public hotspot?

A: You may not run a public hotspot, You may run a small Internet cafe on our business service subject to prior permission.
